Happy St Knut's Day!
Today we took down the Christmas decorations, as per the adopted tradition from Sweden of St Knut's Day.
St. Knut's Day, or Tjugondag Knut in Swedish, falls on January 13th and marks the traditional end of the Christmas season in Sweden. On this day, people take down their Christmas decorations, including the Christmas tree, which is believed to bring good luck for the rest of the year if done on this specific day.
The day is named after Canute Lavard, a Danish duke canonised as a saint, whose feast day coincides with this date. The festivities often include one last celebration with the remaining Christmas treats, singing, and sometimes even dancing around the tree before it's removed. This tradition symbolises the transition from the festive season back to everyday life.
