As to whether the newly elected President, whoever it turns out to be, can actually bring about a meaningful improvement in the lives of the people of America and unblock the political gridlock on Capitol Hill remains to be seen.

Democracy

Democracy only works if the people know that at the end of a period of time (eg 3-5 years) they can kick the "bastards" out of office.

Europe, by the fact that unelected officials can impose financial restrictions and bureaucratic rules on member states, fails the "democracy test".

Advice To The Media

Be careful before celebrating the outbreak of "democracy" in the Middle East, lest it usher in a period of even worse repression.
